Büyük bir sigorta şirketinde çalışan Walter, sondaj işinde çalışan zengin kocası sürekli seyahat ettiği için yalnız yaşayan genç ve güzel Phyllis`in evine gider ve genç kadına kapsamlı bir sigorta paketi satmaya çalışır. Sondaj işinin tehlikelerini bilen Phyllis`in sahte korkularının altında yatan hain düşünceleri fark eden Walter, genç kadının evini terk eder. Sigorta şirketlerinden para alabilmek için çevrilen dolapların ince noktalarını dahi bilen Walter, genç kadına olan hislerine yenik düşer ve Phyllis ile kapsamlı bir cinayet planı hazırlar. Plana göre, Phyllis`in kocası sigortalanacaktır ve şirketin onay vermesi sonrasında bir tren kazasında hayatını kaybedecektir. Walter`in ustaca kurduğu bu plan yolunda giderse, Phyllis`in kocası öldükten sonra sigorta şirketi bir değil, iki tazminat ödeyecektir...
