Bir araba kazası, genç ve güzel doktor Ümranın (Gülşen Bubikoğlu) otomobiliyle çarptığı Cemille (Cüneyt Arkın) tanışmasına neden olur. Kısa sürede genç kıza aşık olan Cemil, Ümranla evlenmek ister. Ümran kararsızdır. Zengin işadamı Sabrinin yanında çalışan Tayfun (Tarık Akan) ise patronun kızı Çiğdemle nişanlı ama mutsuzdur. Sonunda Çiğdemden ayrılan Tayfun işinden de istifa eder. Yakın arkadaşı Cemilin yanına gider. Cemil bir işi için Ankaraya gitmeden önce Tayfuna birine aşık olduğunu anlatır. Bu arada Sabri ve kızı Çiğdem Tayfunun izini bulur. Ümransa bir gün Tayfunla karşılaştığında çok şaşırır. Çünkü Tayfun Ümranın eski sevgilisidir. Cemille evlenmek istemeyen Ümran yeniden kavuştuğu Tayfunla evlilik planları yapar. Tayfun Cemilin sevdiği kızın Ümran olduğunu anlamıştı r. Cemilin Ümrandan vazgeçmeye hiç niyeti yoktur.
